New Member Information

First Step:

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a member of Our Savior's, you can

begin the process by:

Indicating your interest on the Welcome Pads (red cover and on each pew)

Indicating your interest on the registration form for Sunday/Wednesday School

Next Steps:

Pastor Karen will contact you to address any questions you may have and to discuss

opportunities for your involvement at Our Savior's. This may also include a tour of the church.

The Congregational Life Committee will match you up with New Member Sponsor(s) who will

then introduce themselves to you. These sponsors play a key role in helping to introduce you

to others in the congregation as you explore how to become involved at Our Savior's.

A series of New Member Classes begins in January each year. For 2012, these classes will

meet Jan. 11, 18 & 25 and Feb. 1, 8 & 15 from 7-8 p.m. A staffed nursery is provided. If you

are new to the Lutheran tradition, you will be expected to participate in these classes. If you

are transferring your membership from another Lutheran congregation, you are encouraged to

participate. These classes offer a basic overview of the Lutheran tradition and the particular

mission of this congregation as well as provide an opportunity to become acquainted with

others in the congregation.

With the season of Lent that begins with Ash Wednesday (Feb. 22, 2012), new members and

their sponsors are invited to join together in the mid-week worship and fellowship

opportunities.

New Member Orientation is on Palm Sunday (April 1, 2012) from 4:45- 7 p.m. New

members are treated to a supper hosted by their sponsors and the Congregational Life

Committee. The evening also includes taking photos of the new members, time for fellowship,

plus going through the new member packets and discussing opportunities for involvement at

Our Savior’s. Separate kids’ activities will be offered. A staffed nursery is provided.

Historically, Palm Sunday is a significant date for Our Savior’s, since Palm Sunday 1953 marks

the beginning of this congregation.

New Member Sunday is the second Sunday of Easter (April 15, 2012). New members are

asked to check-in at the Welcome Desk 15-20 minutes prior to the worship service of their

choice. New members are invited to sit with their sponsors near the front of the church.

During the worship service, new members will be introduced as they come forward together to

be formally received as members.
